For those of you, not in the know, Koi are like goldfish (carp) only they can cost about 4000 times more. Wow! send me 20! Then plan on going into mourning if your cat eats one. Anyway, our koi fountain tranquilly depicts a koi pond with water streaming over each fish. If you are into Zen, Yoga, feng shui, you wont be disappointed. The sound is terrific, and these koi will last forever! This unique fountain is created by a delicate hand. The entire fountain, including the flowers, leaves, koi and base, are created completely of metal (about 70% of the metal is copper, though chrome, brass, bronze and steel are used too). The wonderful mix of colors in this fountain are created in a variety of ways. We may use a heat patina (we heat up the metal…and it changes color), a chemical patina (this creates a variety of colors including blacks, verdigris, brown, blues, etc), or we may use any of a variety of special paints. Sometimes we may use any combination of these options.

This is a bold and stunning abstract fountain. It reminds us of what one would see watching an alchemist converting lead to gold. It also looks like two planets at war with each other. T hese new Galaxy fountains are truly amazing! What you can’t see are the beautiful iridescent and metallic colors that are in abundance in these panels. In almost any kind of light they scintillate. And Sound! They sound like a brook, or a stream, and a bit like rain. It’s a very tranquil sound, not too quiet, and not Niagara. Please take particular note of the backlighting that you see on some of the fountains (the little stars or glow fireflies).
We almost named this, Leaf That’s Really Chewed to Hell, though the genesis of this work was a recent walk in which a gorgeous leaf was handed to me, at which point I said, “Man that leaf’s really been chewed to hell.” Despite my knuckle-headed response, I did see the beauty in it and immediately dragged out the paints. What is weird about this one, depending on the lighting and time of day, it really changes color, from pure glowing gold, to autumn russets, to something strongly resembling a florentine tapestry. I have no idea why it does this, which makes it really magical to me.
Serene Waters with Silver Mirror (Stainless Steel)
The sights and sounds of water running over natural stone tend to calm the soul and promote tranquility. However, not all water features are created equal.
T he seemingly natural folds in this wall fountain’s middle are sculpted in cast aluminum. The water flows down the middle section and over the folds giving the water a unique look. It gives just the right visual action to the water. The copper sides come out a few inches out from the cast section giving it a sense of real mass and richness. The folds and the columns bring to mind a long ago era, that of ancient Greece. Hence its name, Athens. Dimensions: Length: 27.5″ x Height: 48″
As with all our sculpture descriptions, we try to tell some small truth about each piece… Most of our patrons and fans enjoy the peek behind the scenes. Dancing Cow began as random squirting when we were painting another fountain. The paint tube was clogged and the stream of paint came out oddly. Everybody came over and thought it was cool, and then it was promptly painted over. Later, I tried to recapture the look of the clogged tube and couldn’t duplicate it. Hours later and lots of diddling produced the effect, but now we were all self conscious about the squiggles. A rookie would surmise that we just squished it out any old way. Believe me, there were umpteen versions of Dancing Cow before we got it in the right zone. That’s how art is.
